When it comes to the holiday season, it is important to us to look back at the year we’ve had and to acknowledge the good in our lives. With that gratitude in our hearts, we can pass on the positivity through giving back. Many families cannot afford to enjoy the holidays in the same ways as everyone else. Raising money so that children of struggling families have a gift to open on Christmas morning can brighten not only their lives, but it will give you a taste of that Christmas spirit as well.
For over 15 years, Hy-Capacity has done little fundraisers internally to go towards the Adopt A Family fundraiser in Humboldt County. This year, Hy-Capacity adopted a family of 6 from the Humboldt area that needed a little help this holiday season. We greatly appreciate the community in which we have put our roots down, and giving back to the members in it is a privilege we enjoy.
And we had fun raising the money! There were three different fundraisers that we held in our offices throughout November to raise money. The fundraisers were planned by a team of dedicated employees. These included a taco bar, a nacho bar, and a little friendly competition through Penny Wars. What’s Penny Wars you might ask?
Penny Wars is a competition that we run for over two weeks in November where the various departments form teams to see which group can donate the most pennies. Each penny is worth 1 point, while sabotage points come from silver coins and paper bills. For some people, this meant going to the bank to collect boxes of rolls of pennies and sneaking silvers in other team’s jars. Or perhaps throwing a $20 dollar bill in every jar but your own, but it’s for a good cause, right? Oh, and the winners of Penny Wars won a pizza party for their department.
The Accounting/Inside Sales team brought in the most money, contributing $221.13 in pennies and 447.88 overall. The total for all of the groups combined was a whopping $845.18! That combined with money raised from the taco and nacho bars, our team had plenty of money to make one area family’s Christmas special.
We want to express our sincerest thanks to our customers! Without you, we would never be able to give back as much as we’re able to. Remember to think about giving to a local charity this holiday season, and be sure to have a Merry Christmas with your family!
